External Steel Fire Door

Fire Rated Steel Door Construction

Tested up to EI120 and EW30 for high-performance external fire protection

What do EI120 and EW30 Fire Rating Mean?

Fire door classifications describe different aspects of a door set's performance during a fire test.

E - Integrity: The door's ability to prevent flames and hot gases passing though to the unexposed side.

I - Insulation: The door's ability to limit the temperature rise on the unexposed side.

W - Radiation: The door's ability to limit the amount of heat radiation transmitted through the door.

An EI120 classification therefore indicates a tested configuration providing integrity and insulation performance for the stated period, while EW30 relates to integrity and radiation performance for the stated period.

Need Fire Protection and Security?

Standard fire resistance and security against forced entry are different performance requirement.

Where an external fire door also needs enhanced resistance against intrusion, a PAS 24 security-rated configuration can be specified.

This can be particularly useful for external perimeter doors, service entrances and other openings where the door needs to contribute to both the building's fire strategy and physical security.

PAS 24 performance applies only to the appropriate tested/certified door configuration, so securityhardware, glazing and other options should be selected accordingly.

Sizes & Made-to-Measure Options

Each door is manufactured to your exact opening size, ensuring a precise fit. Bespoke sizes are available for non-standard or complex structural openings.

Vision Panels

Approved fire-rated vision panels are available in specified sizes and configurations, allowing visibility through the door while maintaining the applicable tested fire performance.

Ventilation Louvres

Approved fire-rated louvre options are available on applicable door configurations where ventilation is required. The permitted louvre specification depends on the required fire performance and certified door configuration.

Acoustic Performance

Doors are available with acoustic ratings up to 36dB, helping reduce noise transfer in environments where sound control is important.

Colour & Finish Options

Supplied galvanised as standard or powder coated in any RAL or BS colour, allowing the doors to match building aesthetics or branding. Durable coatings ensure resistance to weather and corrosion.

Hardware & Ironmongery

A full range of external-grade, fire-rated hardware is available, including:

• Panic bars and escape hardware
• External access locks and handles
• Door closers and restrictors
• Threshold options for accessibility

External Application Design

Our External Steel Fire Doors are manufactured to order, with a typical lead time of 3–4 weeks from order confirmation and final specification. This ensures each door is produced to the required fire rating, size, and external performance standards.

Please note that additional features and upgrades, such as vision panels, fire-rated louvre panels, PAS24 security upgrades, or specialist hardware, may extend the lead time by a few additional weeks. We will always confirm accurate timescales at quotation stage to support your project planning.

We offer a professional supply and installation service, ensuring your doors are fitted correctly, weather-sealed, and fully compliant with fire safety and building regulations.

Correct Installation Is Essential

A fire door's tested performance relates to the complete door set and its approved installation configuration, not simply the steel door leaf.

The frame, supporting construction, fixings, clearances, seals, threshold, hardware and any fire stopping around the opening must therefore be installed in accordance with the applicable manufacturer's instructions and tested/certified specification.

For supply-only projects, installation requirements should be reviewed before fitting to ensure the proposed wall construction and installation method are suitable.

The cost of External Steel Fire Doors depends on factors such as fire rating, size, configuration, security upgrades, and external performance requirements. As these doors are designed for higher-spec applications, pricing is typically above standard internal fire doors.
