Security Doors, Roller Shutters & Grilles for Film and TV Sets
Bespoke security products for film, television and production sets – combining authentic appearances with practical functionality.
From period shopfronts and gritty urban streets to industrial warehouses, prisons and high-security facilities, Security Direct supplies a comprehensive range of roller shutters, steel doors, folding security grilles and window bars for film and television productions throughout the UK.
With years of experience in the security industry, including supplying products for film-set applications, we understand that production requirements can be very different from conventional commercial installations.
For art departments and production designers, the appearance of a product can be just as important as its functionality. A security shutter may need to look decades old, a folding grille may need to replicate a particular architectural period, or a roller shutter may need to operate as part of a carefully choreographed filming sequence.
Our role is to help bring these creative requirements to life, providing practical product solutions that complement your set design, filming requirements and production schedule.
Understanding the Challenges of Film and Television Production
Film and television productions present unique challenges that are rarely encountered on conventional security installations.
Period Accuracy and Authenticity
Whether recreating a 1950s American street, a 1970s industrial workshop or a contemporary city centre, security products need to look appropriate to the period and location.
Modern shutters and doors can appear out of place on historical sets, making the correct choice of product, materials and construction particularly important.
Security Direct can help identify suitable shutter profiles, grille designs, steel doors and window security products that can be incorporated into convincing period environments.
Distressed and Weathered Finishes
Not every production wants a pristine, newly manufactured product.
Art departments may require shutters and grilles that appear worn, rusty, neglected or damaged to complement the overall set design.
We can supply galvanised steel shutters, folding grilles and other metal security products suitable for further scenic treatment, allowing production teams to create aged and distressed finishes appropriate to their requirements
Unusual Sizes and Bespoke Requirements
Film sets rarely follow conventional building dimensions. Openings may be oversized, constructed from temporary materials or designed specifically around a camera angle or filming sequence.
We offer made-to-measure products and can discuss bespoke configurations to accommodate unusual openings and installation requirements.
Tight Production Schedules
We understand that filming schedules are demanding and that delays to set construction can affect multiple departments.
By discussing product specifications, availability, manufacturing lead times and installation requirements early in the process, we can help production teams plan their projects effectively and avoid unnecessary complications.
Working Within Temporary Set Structures
Unlike conventional buildings, film sets may use temporary frameworks, timber constructions or other non-standard substrates.
Our team can advise on product mounting requirements and identify situations where additional structural support or specialist installation considerations may be necessary.
Roller Shutters – From Period Shopfronts to Industrial Warehouses
Roller shutters are a familiar feature of urban streets, shops, garages, warehouses and industrial buildings, making them an important architectural detail in many film and television productions.
Security Direct supplies a wide selection of made-to-measure steel and aluminium roller shutters that can be incorporated into contemporary or period sets.
Our range includes:
- Solid galvanised steel roller shutters – ideal for traditional shopfronts, industrial buildings, garages and warehouse scenes.
- Punched roller shutters – featuring patterned openings that allow visibility and light through the shutter curtain.
- Perforated roller shutters – suitable for retail and commercial environments.
- Electric roller shutters – for productions requiring functional opening and closing sequences.
- Industrial and high-speed roller shutters – for larger openings and action sequences requiring controlled shutter operation.
Galvanised steel shutters provide a practical starting point for productions requiring a distressed or weathered industrial appearance.
Folding Security Grilles – Authentic Period Shopfronts
Folding security grilles are particularly effective for recreating traditional urban shopfronts, commercial premises and entrances.
Their distinctive expanding lattice construction makes them instantly recognisable and suitable for historical streetscapes, including mid-20th-century settings.
Security Direct supplies made-to-measure retractable security grilles for windows, shopfronts, doors and other openings.
Our folding grilles can be specified for a wide variety of applications, including:
- Traditional corner shops and high-street premises.
- Period American-style storefronts.
- Pawn shops, jewellers and commercial entrances.
- Older apartment buildings and communal entrances.
- Warehouses and industrial buildings.
Folding grilles can be supplied in finishes suitable for scenic ageing and distressing, helping art departments achieve the required appearance.
Window Security Bars – Prisons, Warehouses and Industrial Sets
Vertical steel window bars are a simple but visually effective way of establishing the character of a location.
They can help create the appearance of a prison, secure institution, industrial building or older commercial property.
Security Direct supplies made-to-measure steel window security bars in various configurations, including traditional vertical bar arrangements.
Applications include:
- Prison and detention facility sets.
- Industrial warehouses and workshops.
- Period factories and commercial buildings.
- Secure storage facilities.
- Urban and abandoned building scenes.
Depending on the product specification, bars can be supplied with different frame arrangements and finishes to suit the required architectural appearance.
Bespoke Solutions for Creative Productions
At Security Direct, we recognise that the products required for film and television sets do not always fit a standard specification.
A production may need a shutter with a particular slat profile, an unusually large folding security grille or a steel door that resembles a design from several decades ago.
Our experienced team works with customers to understand their intended application and identify a suitable solution.
We can assist with:
- - Product selection based on period and architectural appearance.
- - Made-to-measure manufacturing.
- - Different materials, profiles and finish options.
- - Product dimensions and technical requirements.
- - Manual and electric operation, where available.
- - Installation considerations for temporary and permanent structures.
- - Supply-only and supply-and-installation options.
We can also discuss specific operational requirements, including shutters intended to open or close during filming. Such applications require appropriate technical assessment and safe operating arrangements.

Where required, we can work alongside your construction team to discuss dimensions, fixing requirements and installation arrangements before manufacture. With our experience across roller shutters, steel doors, folding grilles and physical security products, we can help reduce the need to coordinate multiple specialist suppliers.
