CE Marked Fire Shutter System

Manufactured and supplied in accordance with BS EN 16034, supported by the applicable EN 15269-10 extended-application and classification evidence.

The FLAME ARMOUR Doorway Fire Shutter is manufactured as a tested fire-rated system. Each shutter is made to measure, but its dimensions, construction, motor, controls, supporting structure and installation details must remain within the applicable tested, classified or assessed configuration.

What Do E60, E90, E120 and E240 Mean?

The E classification relates to fire integrity, the ability of the shutter system to resist the passage of flames and hot gases during the applicable fire-resistance test.

E60 – 60 minutes
E90 – 90 minutes
E120 – 120 minutes
E240 – 240 minutes

This shutter is uninsulated, so an E classification should not be confused with an EI insulation rating.

Supporting Structure

This Doorway Fire Shutter is intended for approved rigid supporting constructions.

Suitable configurations can include:

• The complete supporting frame must have a section factor below 230m⁻¹, calculated for four-sided fire exposure.
• Both horizontal and vertical supporting members must comply.
• Steelwork must be protected for the required fire-resistance period using a suitably evidenced system, such as:
• Passive protection tested to EN 13381-4.
• Reactive protection tested to EN 13381-8.
• Unprotected structural steel is not permitted. The suitability of the supporting construction must be confirmed during technical review.

Finished Floor or Sill

• The shutter closes at finished-floor level.
• The floor or sill beneath the bottom rail must be suitable for the required fire-resistance period.
• The FPA assessment permits suitable floor or sill materials with a minimum reaction-to-fire classification of Euroclass A2.

Shutter Construction

The shutter, supporting construction, fixings, finished-floor detail, controls and interfaces must correspond with the applicable tested, classified or assessed configuration to achieve the specified fire performance.

Lead Times

Typical manufacturing lead times are approximately 3–4 weeks for tubular-motor shutters and 4–6 weeks for industrial-motor shutters. Lead times may vary depending on the shutter size, required fire rating, motor and control configuration, powder-coated finish and other project-specific requirements. An estimated delivery or installation date will be confirmed at quotation stage and finalised once the specification has been approved.

Installation

Correct installation is essential to achieving the specified fire performance. The shutter must be installed by trained and competent personnel in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the applicable tested, classified or assessed configuration. This includes the supporting structure, fixings, finished-floor or sill detail, controls and fire-alarm interfaces.

For supply-and-installation projects, we will normally complete a site survey to verify the opening dimensions, supporting construction and installation conditions before manufacture. The final specification and operating sequence should also be agreed with the project’s fire designer and relevant Building Control body where required.
