Why Buy the FC4 Fire Curtain – With Integrity and Radiation Performance?

Advanced Fire Containment with Heat Shielding – Certified to BS EN Standards

The FC4 Fire Curtain is a high-performance automatic fire curtain designed to provide two critical lines of defence during a fire: integrity (preventing flames and smoke from passing) and radiation control (reducing the heat transfer to protected escape routes or adjacent areas). Fully tested to BS EN 1634-1 and BS EN 13501-2, the FC4 curtain achieves an E60 EW30 classification, meaning 60 minutes integrity and 30 minutes radiation protection.

Ideal for large open-plan environments, atriums, commercial buildings, healthcare settings, and anywhere passive fire containment must also protect occupants from radiant heat.

E60 EW30 – Dual Performance Protection

  •    E60 (Integrity): Prevents fire, flames, smoke, and hot gases from breaching a compartment for 60 minutes
  •   EW30 (Radiation): Controls radiant heat to prevent ignition of materials or injury for 30 minutes, ensuring safer evacuation routes
  •   Meets UK Building Regulations and is suited for fire compartmentation, boundary separation, and protected means of escape

Ideal for Human Safety & Escape Routes

Radiation control is especially valuable in high-occupancy environments such as:

  •        Shopping centres
  •       Hospitals
  •       Airports and terminals
  •       Schools and universities

Prevents secondary fire risk by limiting heat transmission to surrounding materials and corridors

Automatic Deployment on Alarm or Power Loss

Remains invisible above ceilings or bulkheads until activated

   Deploys automatically upon:

  •        Fire alarm signal
  •       Loss of mains power
  •       Manual override (optional)

Features gravity fail-safe deployment via patented headbox system with battery back-up.

Engineered for Versatile Installation

Supplied as a ready-to-install modular system with:

  •        Slimline headbox
  •       Side guides for controlled descent
  •       Fire-resistant bottom bar for curtain stability

Suitable for face-fix or soffit-fix installation

Can be linked to building management systems (BMS) or fire control panels.

Custom Sizes & Finishes Available

Manufactured to bespoke dimensions up to:

  •        5m wide per curtain
  •       Unlimited width possible via overlaps or modular design

Fabric is a multilayer glass-based weave with fire-resistant coatings

Headbox and guide rails can be powder-coated to match architectural finishes

Information

Security Features

  • Purpose-built for passive fire protection, the FC4 offers a robust barrier to fire and radiant heat—enhancing security of escape routes and critical areas.
  • Operates without mechanical locking—activates automatically via fire alarm signals or power failure.
  • Prevents fire spread and assists emergency response, particularly in high-risk zones with large openings.

Safety Features

  •   Independently tested to EN 13501-2, achieving E120 and EW60 classifications, delivering 120 minutes of fire integrity and 60 minutes of radiation control.
  •  Integrates gravity fail-safe mechanism, ensuring safe curtain deployment in any power failure event.
  •  Fitted with UPS battery backup for operational reliability under emergency conditions.
  •  CE-marked under both EN 16034 and EN 13241, meeting essential European standards for powered fire-resistant barriers.

Fire Safety

  •    Offers dual protection:
       ‣ E classification: Prevents passage of flames and hot gases for 120 minutes.
       ‣ EW classification: Limits radiant heat transmission for 60 minutes to protect people and materials nearby.
  •   Built with multi-layer stainless-steel wire reinforced fabric, coated to reflect heat and withstand intense fire exposure.
  •   Ensures compartmentation in open-plan buildings, aiding both evacuation and fire-fighting efforts.
  •   Ideal for locations requiring enhanced life safety provisions, such as escape corridors, lobbies, and lift areas.

Design & Customisation

  •    Discreet and versatile: features a compact headbox for flush integration into ceilings, bulkheads, or walls.
  •   Supplied in standard RAL 9005 (black) or 9010 (white), with bespoke colour options available on request.
  •   Supports multi-curtain and wide-span configurations, adaptable to architectural needs without visual compromise.

Operation & Controls

  •    Powered by a 24V DC tubular motor linked to BLE’s FC-INTUM digital control panel.
  •   Full integration with fire detection systems and building management systems (BMS) for automatic deployment.
  •   Includes manual reset and test switch, facilitating routine inspections and maintenance checks.
  •   Optional visual and audible alerts to signal curtain operation during emergency response.

Installation & Warranty

  •    Manufactured made-to-measure, ensuring a tailored fit for every opening and building fire strategy.
  •   Available for soffit or face-fix installation depending on structural requirements.
  •   Certified for installation only into masonry walls using an 80mm x 80mm x 5mm mild steel box section, ensuring compliance with tested fire protection standards.
  •   Includes a 12-month standard warranty, with extensions available through Security Direct maintenance programs.

Lead Time & Common Applications

  •    Typical lead time: 3–5 weeks, depending on size and project specification.
  •   Common applications include lobbies, corridors, atriums, escape routes, and compartment walls where both integrity and radiation resistance are required.
  •   Installed across sectors such as transport hubs, commercial offices, shopping centres, hotels, and healthcare facilities.
