Industrial Roller Screens

Agricultural Roller Screens offer a versatile fabric door solution for farm buildings, providing protection from wind and weather while maintaining ventilation. These heavy-duty roller screens are purpose-built for agriculture – ideal for livestock barns, machinery sheds, and grain stores – where traditional solid doors may trap heat or restrict airflow. By using high-strength PVC mesh or solid curtain materials, our roller screens shield your barn interior from rain and drafts without sacrificing natural airflow, helping to keep livestock healthy and bedding dry. Designed as an easier, safer alternative to conventional steel shutters, they also allow quick access for farm vehicles and equipment.

Key Features & Benefits

Weather Protection + Ventilation:

Tough agricultural-grade screens act as a windbreak and rain barrier, reducing wind chill and keeping out driving rain while still allowing fresh air to circulate. This maintains a healthier environment for animals and workers – maximizing livestock health and comfort by preventing cold drafts and heat stress. The optional high-performance mesh has only ~10% airflow to block more weather, whereas standard mesh (~25% airflow) provides a balance of rain protection and ventilation. For youngstock or sensitive crops, you can choose less permeable fabric for greater shelter.

Fast, Easy Operation (Manual or Electric):

These roller screens are easy and quick to open, whether using the manual chain/rope mechanism or an electric motor drive. The spring-assisted manual system uses a high-speed chain that opens at about 2 seconds per metre of door height – meaning even large bays can be opened in seconds by one person. Electric models feature powerful motors that open doors at 7–9 seconds per metre, providing rapid access at the push of a button. This speed is ideal for busy farms with frequent movements of tractors, loaders or livestock. Manual screens include simple locking catches to secure the curtain when closed, while electric versions come with hold-to-run controls and automatic safety brakes for safe operation

Durable & Wind-Resistant:

Engineered for tough outdoor conditions, our agricultural screens are built to last. The robust PVC-coated polyester fabrics have very high tensile strength (over 3–5 tonnes per metre) and are tear-resistant and rot-proof. Reinforced wind protection features – like nylon wind-locks and steel wind bars – keep the curtain stable in high winds, so they won’t flap or pull out of the guides on stormy days. Each system is rigorously tested for thousands of cycles (the heavy-duty model is tested to 10,000+ up/down operations), ensuring reliable performance even with frequent daily use. All our roller screen doors are backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty for peace of mind.

Custom Fit for Large Openings:

Unlike one-size-fits-all tarps, these roller screens are made to order and fully adjustable to your building. They can span very large openings, with standard models covering up to around 6m wide by 4m high, and heavy-duty versions handling apertures as big as 10m x 10m (up to 55 m² area). This makes them suitable for everything from doorway-sized barn entrances to the broad gable ends of grain stores. Each screen’s tracking and tension system is adjusted on-site for a taut fit, including a flexible 140mm bottom flap to accommodate uneven floors. Inside or outside mount: The screens can be installed either internally or externally on the building frame, giving you flexibility in different barn layouts. Galvanised steel head cowlings are included (UK only) to shield the rolled-up curtain and mechanism from the elements.

Flexible Materials & Configuration:

You have control over the curtain material to suit your needs. Options include breathable mesh fabrics that allow airflow and light, or solid PVC panels for maximum weather blockage – or even a combination of both in one door. For example, you might use mesh in the upper sections for ventilation and a solid lower panel to stop driving rain. All fabric panels are interchangeable and easily replaceable if damaged. A range of colors is available to match your building, and clear translucent sections can be specified if natural light is a priority. This flexibility allows you to balance ventilation vs. protection perfectly for a given building’s use.

Easy Installation & Maintenance:

Agricultural Roller Screens are delivered in a kit form with everything needed for installation on the farm. No heavy machinery is required – the systems are designed for straightforward DIY fitting, and full instructions (including video guides) are provided. The screens use a simple bolt-on track system that suits steel or timber framed buildings, and the fitting can typically be done in a matter of hours. Once installed, maintenance is minimal: the corrosion-resistant components and PVC materials need only occasional cleaning. In the event of accidental damage by machinery or livestock, individual fabric sections or parts can be easily replaced without having to change the entire door. This keeps lifetime costs low and ensures your access remains secure and functional long-term.

Options & Configurations

Our Agricultural Roller Screens are offered as one unified product with selectable options to meet different needs. You can choose between Standard-Duty and Heavy-Duty models, and each can be operated manually or supplied with electric automation. Below is a guide to the available configurations and when each is recommended:

Standard Duty – Manual:

A cost-effective, chain or spring-operated roller screen suited for medium-sized openings (roughly up to 6m wide by 4m high). This light-duty manual option is ideal for general farm buildings like livestock housing and commodity sheds where you need frequent daily access but the site is relatively sheltered (not extremely wind-exposed). The manual operation is easy thanks to a spring-assisted mechanism and high-speed chain drive, allowing one person to open/close the door quickly. Choose this option for busy barns, feed areas or workshops with regular activity, when electric power is not necessary or available.

Standard Duty – Electric:

The same robust standard-duty screen equipped with an electric motor for push-button convenience. Suitable for similar moderate opening sizes (up to ~5m width), this option is popular in dairy parlours, equestrian arenas, or feed stores that see frequent traffic and where hands-free operation saves time. The door opens in approximately 9 seconds per metre, providing swift access for machinery and livestock. A hold-to-run control switch is provided for safety. Choose the electric upgrade if your door will be opened many times a day or by multiple users – it offers added convenience for high-throughput areas while still maintaining the light-duty construction for cost efficiency.

Heavy-Duty – Manual:

A reinforced manual roller door designed for larger openings and more demanding conditions. This configuration can cover openings up to about 6.5m wide and 6m high, making it suitable for big machinery sheds, grain stores, or barn entrances exposed to strong winds. The heavy-duty manual screen features a spring-assisted chain drive that opens around 2 seconds per metre – despite the increased size, it remains quick and easy to operate by hand. Thanks to integrated nylon wind-locks and wind bars, the curtain stays secure even in high winds. Choose the heavy manual option if you require the durability and size of an industrial-grade door but prefer a simpler manual system (for example, to avoid electrical hookup or because the door is only opened occasionally). It’s a great choice for agricultural buildings where reliability and wind resistance are critical, but an electric motor is not deemed necessary.

Heavy-Duty – Electric:

Our top-of-the-line configuration, this heavy-duty electric roller screen handles the largest openings and the most intensive use. With models accommodating spans up to 10m wide or 10m high, it’s perfect for very large farm portals such as combine harvester garages, indoor riding arenas, or bulk crop stores. The powerful motor system opens the door at roughly 7 seconds per metre of height, allowing quick clearance even for towering doorways. Built for endurance, the heavy-duty motor has an extended duty cycle for frequent operation and can be specified in single-phase or three-phase depending on power supply. For safety, it includes an automatic safety brake and an emergency manual override so you can still open the door in a power outage. This option also supports advanced controls – you can choose simple push-button control or upgrade to remote control operation for maximum convenience. We recommend the heavy-duty electric screen for high-value facilities and exposed sites: it provides effortless operation for the farmer and rugged protection for the building, day in and day out, even under harsh weather or nonstop daily usage.

Each configuration is part of the same Security Direct Agricultural Roller Screen range, so no matter which option you select, you benefit from the core advantages: weather-proof ventilation, ease of use, and long-term durability. For further guidance on the best option for your farm, feel free to contact our team – we can advise based on your building type (livestock vs. machinery, etc.) and how often you need access. With the right roller screen in place, you’ll have a farm building entrance that is secure against the elements, easy to use, and built to last.
